Beaujolais Nouveau leaves few whining

“It’s a tradition that reminds me of France”

Jim Carson is a veteran of Beaujolais Nouveau tastings from his college days a couple of decades ago.

‘It should be a fun wine,’ the Greenwich resident said last night as he and his wife, Sue, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with members of the Alliance Francaise of Greenwich at Le Wine Shop to taste the season’s first crop of gamay grapes.

‘It popped in your mouth when you drank it,’ Jim Carson said of the Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais he enjoyed during last night’s wine tasting.

Dozens of Alliance members and others crowded into the shop last night. It was not like any other wine tasting normally held during the year. Yesterday was the third Thursday of November, which by French decree is the first official day the 2007 Beaujolais Nouveau can be uncorked and served. Read more
